Lakh Bahosi Bird Sanctuary, Near City Tirwa, District Kannauj, India

The bird sanctuary is named after its location i.e. villages Lakh and Bahosi . The nearest town /city is Tirwa (District Kannauj) 20 KM from the bird sanctuary. If you are traveling in your own car, you can directly go to the place else book a car/taxi to reach the Lakh Bahosi bird sanctuary.  The bird sanctuary can be reached by the following means:

1. Road: The site is located almost 20 KM from the city Tirwa. Tirwa is well connected with the Agra-Lucknow expressway. You will find the Tirwa cut/ Tirwa passing at the 194 km milestone. Tirwa is well connected with the Bus Services provided by Private companies as well as UPSRTC Roadways.

2. Train: The nearest Railway Station is Kannauj railway station which is the district head quarter as well. There are direct trains from Kannauj connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Mathura, Lucknow but are few in numbers.  However, there are numerous trains almost every hour or two between Kanpur central and Farrukhabad on which Kannauj station falls in the middle which is almost 2 Hr journey from any end.

3. Flight: One has to reach Amousi airport, Lucknow and from there can get a bus/cab if traveling by road to reach Tirwa; or can catch a train to reach Kannuaj rly stn. After reaching Kannauj railway station, you have to catch a bus/taxi to reach Tirwa.

Tirwa is a well-developed town having Government Medical College, Government Engineering College, Government Polytechnic College.

There are number of hotels where you can stay i.e. Chandan Hotel near Medical College, Aayesha Hotel near Trimukha Road etc. Eateries here are Shukla Hotel near Gandhi Chauraha, Badshah Hotel for non-veg foods in Shukla Colony, Hotel Chandan near medical college etc.

Roadway to Lakh Bahosi Bird Sanctuary from Tirwa:

Find Indergarh Tiraha in Tirwa---> Take Road to Indergarh  ---->Reach Indergarh ---> Take left from the Tiraha in Indergarh and Take raod to Police Station of Indergarh ---> The road leads you to the Lakh Bahosi bird sanctuary.

The Geo-coordinates of the site is 260 54` 30.84487" N 790 38` 25.7766" E. The best time to visit the place is Winter season i.e. December-January-February. As the temperature starts dropping, more birds start coming to the place.  The place is usually visited by Migratory Birds from Siberia, Canada, and various cold places. 

The area of the bird sanctuary includes a wide Lake of the area around 2 sq-km, a small museum, office, loo, and a mini-park for children. 

Avian Flora (birds) of the Bird Sanctuary are : Cotton Pigmy Goose, Bronze-winged Jacana, Great white Pellican, Eurasian Coot, Ruddy Shelduce, Bar-Headed Goose, Northern Shoveler, Black Ibis, Common Shel Duck, Garganey Teal, Wigeon, Grey Heron, Asian Open Bill Stork, Darter, Purple Heron, White Bellied Heron, Woolly Necked Stork, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Northern Pintail,  Pied Kingfisher, Black-headed Ibis, Cotton Teal, Gadwall,  Great Crested Grebe, Common Coot, Pintail, Sarus Crane, Peacock, Mayna, Cuckoo, Pigeon, Crow, Raven etc.

Usually found fauna (animals) in the area are Jackal, mongoose, Bluebull, langoor etc.
